This year we knew the weather was going to possibly come into play, but we were hopeful. We even waited until the morning of the BBQ to go purchase all the food....just in case. All was actually looking favorable for the planned 2:00pm start, UNTIL.......
1:00pm came along and brought torrential downpours...monsoon-like weather. Thunder and lightening so strong and so close, that I am surprised the boys didn't get nervous. All of the triplet group members were online, and we were posting back and forth. We finally decided on a delayed start of 3:00pm, to give the rains a chance to subside. Well, 1:30 came along and all of a sudden it got really quiet in the house....Yep, you guessed it...the power went out. No big deal right???? It'll come right back on.....NOT!!!!!!
By 3:00, the power still had not come back on, but we decided to go ahead with the BBQ anyway, because the rain had slowed to a drizzle. So yes folks, we ended up hosting our 3rd Annual Club Triple Play Family BBQ....INSIDE our house, with EIGHT sets of triplets and their families in attendance!!!!! And guess what...the power was OUT the WHOLE BBQ!!!!
The kids ALL had a REALLY great time together, and played WONDERFULLY all day and into the night!!! Considering we had NO power at all through the whole BBQ, I'd say it was a big success!!! We got to all hang out and catch up with each other with the aid of a lantern, flashlights, and candles, as the kids all played. As families with higher-order multiples, we have all learned to adapt and overcome. If nothing else, it was a very memorable event...and yes, it really DID look like the atomic bomb blew up in my house after everyone left...but boy was it worth it!!!!
Just for the record....power was not restored until just after 10:00pm tonight. After 9 hours of no power, I'll be spending tomorrow emptying out my refrigerator, and going grocery shopping to replenish the spoiled items...Uggghh!
