Today was a gorgeous day, so my friend Jenn and I rounded up our terrific trios and headed over to The Suffolk County Farm. This place is actually a real working farm that is surrounded by corn fields for as far as the eye can see, and is split up into two distinct sections. Stinky and not stinky.
The stinky section contains dozens and dozens of dairy cows and steer, about 15 big 'ol HUGE pigs, a chicken house, horses, llamas, sheep, as well as a few others. This is where all the work goes on. There is even a slaughter house on premise, as well as lots of tractors and other farm equipment passing by as you are walking around.
The non-stinky section is on the other side of the farm. It is one big petting pen, where the kids can feed, see and/or pet goats, sheep, rabbits, piglets, peacocks, turkeys, guinea fowl, geese, ducks, donkeys, etc...
This farm is a great interactive place for the kids, and what's even better is...that it's FREE!!! They have many great programs throughout the year, camp, a 4-H program, and wonderful fall festivals.
Here is a slide roll from today's visit. You can click on each picture if you'd like a larger view...enjoy!
